The name Luminis comes from 'LUMEN', a latin word that means 'LIGHT' and that, in the classical astrology, particularly in the expression 'vis luminis', indicates the circular area that surrounds every 'ASTER' or 'CELESTIAL BODY'.
About this topic you can find something interesting in the 'GLOSSARIO' of the following site: Astrologia classica - Cielo e Terra . These pages are made by the homonymous association that promotes the study of this subject :
Vis luminis: (or even vis corporis) is the circular area that each planet has around itself and that determines its sphere of influence (sphera activitatis) for conjunction or for appearance. The ray of the vis luminis is different for each planet. The values accepted by the major part of the authors are: 15° for the Sun, 12° for the Moon, 9° for Saturn and Jupiter, 8° for Mars, 7° for Venus and Mercury.

Therefore we are likely talking about a force (vis) that characterizes each planet and that represents all its 'passions' or 'qualities', accurately described by the scientist PLACIDO TITI in the 'Coelestis Philosophia': Del moto locale delle stelle......
Having heard of the 'vis', that is the 'force', we have almost automatically referred to STAR WARS and to that strange kind of energy that crosses the time and the space and that seems to us a sort of mixture of a cosmic vibration and the power of meditation: the FORCE.
In addition, you can find the word 'lumen' in an interesting medieval text by Albertano da Brescia. In sermon N.1, written about the year 1250 together with other four for his students, Albertano says:
'Concerning
illumination we need to know that those who want to shine their
light (lumen) for others, should have light
within themselves. For, without light, man is said to be almost
blind and "if the blind should lead the blind, both will
fall in the pit" as the Truth itself testifies in the
Gospel. (...)
We should walk in this way in order that light may endure and not
be extinguished, and we can do this in two ways namely:
perseverance, and if we will have removed these things from us,
which usually block the light and extinguish it; and these in my
judgment are six, namely: the impurity of light, the removal of
the light or away from the light, wind or a breeze, an obstacle
placed to the light, by hiding the light, and the singleness of
the light.'

In this case the word 'lumen' could probably mean 'faith', 'spiritual enlightenment' or every other condition of the soul referring to those principles that give a sense to our life and are capable of pointing out to us the right direction to choose. This is the light that we should hold inside us and that we should be able to share.
