Preface
There are some moments in my life that I cannot
forget. Not because I am a melancholic person, but the moment has
been too deep planted in my heart and my mind.
There is one person who I cannot forget. His name was Leslie
Cheung Kwok Wing, he was an artiste. Not because I don't want to
forget him, but I cannot forget him. He was not an ordinary man,
so I can't ignore him.
I read about him around 1984. I've become fan of his art works
since 1986. And since that time I have learnt many things from
him. It is my dream to read a book about his life. I believe many
people will get benefits when reading about his life.
One day in June 2002, I intended to write a beautiful article
about him for a media in my country because I've found many
negative reports about him which I knew it was so far from the
truth, but I found that all his life was an interesting story and
I dare to say that it is an important story. Realizing this, I've
compiled all news about him and I've written his biography since
July 2002 in my language, Bahasa Indonesia. Then on April 2003 I
was deeply sad realizing that I would never meet him in person, I
would never talk with him, but it didn't stop my idea to read a
complete story about him, so I set my mind to keep writing about
him. Unfortunately I had other job, so I only started to write
again on June 2003 in English.
What has enabled me to write is the fact that Mr.
Leslie Cheung was so pure. He always tried to not hide anything,
he tried to always share his feelings to his fans, and he was an
openly letter. What I've written is everything that has ever been
published. Off course there will be my personal opinions, but I
promise it will be only a little. In the future may be there will
be many biographies of Mr. Leslie Cheung which better than the
one I'm writing. May be the biographies will be written by his
closest friends, member of his family or professional writers. I
only would like my writing become one of writings about him
because he deserves to be immortalized in many writings.
He said that his life was full with
contradictions, I said that it was a really rare special life in
this world. From Kwok Wing to Leslie, from Leslie to Gor Gor, he
had left many great stories and works for us. Many artists come
and go but to be a legend status should never been struggled for.
It's a gift from God. Leslie Cheung is a legend. It is a great
honor for me to compile his story.

explain and if I were an expert writer (I don't say that I am an
expert one) can I write words about Leslie better than his own
words of his child hood)? To Anon, I don't know how to contact
you, if you read this biography and find your own words, take
this acknowledgement as my compliments to you. I really

fans: let's continue Leslie's spirits and appreciate his legacy
more and more.
If I have to mention about sources of this biography, may be I
can't mention it completely and it will take one fifth length of
the writing itself. All writings and news about Mr. Leslie Cheung
has been sources for me. I have read so many writings about him.
I read about him in an Indonesian magazine which was published on
1978, I also read about him in a magazine which published on
2003.
I read many news about him, many comments about him on internet
for years. I've tried tidily save all I have read about him in my
mind and I've tried to compose everything I know about him in
order. So, if you ever wrote or commented something about Leslie
may be you will find your words in this biography. Hope you would

12 September 2004 - Time goes by since this biography started to be published in this pillow. Till a meaningful date 12 September 2004, I have finished 1989 part. In my journey in writing this biography, I realize that Leslie Cheung's spirit has never dissapeared from this world. I feel his spirit is still life within his worldwide fans. It is all of you, friends, who make this journey beautiful by breaking your silence. I thank all friends who have encouraged me to continue writing and even contribute many writings for this biography. I would like to thank Susanna from Hong Kong who patiently answer my questions about Leslie, to dear Mei from Malaysia for her contribution in content and her correction, for my friend Ellen who help me to translate what Leslie said in Final Encounter concert, to Starnight from Singapore for your suggestion and contribution. At this moment, I can't remember when exactly I started to compile and rewrite the biography of Leslie. It could be in the middle of 2002 but I remember clearly that the biography was uploaded on 'Leslie's Pillow' for the first time on 18 February 2004 (Mr. Tong’s 45th birthday) and today it is exactly a year after that occasion. I would not comment about Leslie here. You can read and understand his character more from reading the biography. Besides his fame and his love for his career, he had encountered numerous unpleasant situations and experienced dishonesty behind the sparkle of entertainment circle which I think that the HK entertainment industry is like a wild life in a forest, regardless of beauty or the right things. I hope I can write it word for word for you all.
Since I wrote the 1991's
biography of Leslie, I have acquired the kind assistance of
Kathreen Yee as my proof-reading editor. I'm very happy with her
job and I would like to extend my gratitude to her. Thank you,
Kathreen!!! Ever since Nadia uploaded the biography of Leslie, I
have continued to work on it with my computer, collecting
news/information by collaborating with other Leslie's fans and of
course having my Indonesian-English and Oxford
Dictionaries. It takes time to write a chapter as there is
much information to be gathered from various sources.
You will be able to read the most recent chapter in the biography
i.e '1992 – Peking Operas' in a few days time. Once again,
thank you Kathreen for your proof-reading. For your info, I took
only 2 days to write this chapter. However for the
next chapter '1993 – Bride with White Hair' – it took
me almost 2 months to compile this article.
I am determined to finish
writing this biography and may I request you all to pray for me.

Today marks the second year
anniversary of this biography on Leslie's Pillow. Many things had
happened during this course of time. As time goes on,
I'm truly impressed by the love and dedication of Leslie's
fans. God and Leslie must have guided me to knowing
Kathreen Yee and meeting up with Jennifer Mourin over the
years. After the great loss of all my data on the life of
GorGor, due to the collapse of my PC hard disk, I had endeavoured
to make this biography a better one with the kind assistance
of Kathreen Yee, Jennifer Mourin and some other friends
- LoveLeslie, Jean Young, Daydreamer, Simie, Devoted Fan,
Karen, Jackie and Phoenix. As long as we have faith and trust in
the Lord, we will be able to make it. I'm experiencing this
power of faithful love from Leslie's fans while I'm writing and
compiling this biography and this is truly a beautiful experience
in my life.
