MING PAO NEWS -- April 6, 2003

Mrs. Chan comes out to clarify for Leslie.

Since the day the legendary Leslie Cheung fell from the 24th floor of the Mandarin Oriental, there have been numerous rumours emerging offering different explanations. Key figures apart from Mr.Tong, assistant Kenneth and Chan Suk Fan, there were even talks about spirits and ghosts!

Chan Suk Fan, whom witnessed her very best partner's falling, has experienced an indescribably hard blow. These few days she has been busy running around for Leslie's matters, and refused to say much about his death. Yesterday when she was interviewed by the Ming Pao Weekly, she couldn't bare to let Leslie be attacked by anymore rumours, so she decided to give out the truth.

Gor Gor & Mr.Tong's 20-yr-old relationship never changed.

Mrs.Chan says that Daffy (Mr.Tong) these few days have seen so many false reports, which point the finger at them saying that they were the ones who caused the tragedy, making him really upset. Because all these years, Daffy has took care of Gor Gor with all his heart, with the loved one leaving him he was heart-broken enough, all these rumours made him even more frustrated. Mrs.Chan says that Gor Gor and Daffy's relationship exceeded 20 years (began since 1982), that Gor Gor had never changed heart, that their relationship had never changed on either side.

Mrs.Chan says that the period Gor Gor was tortured by the illness, were also tough days for Daffy. Gor Gor felt very painful that Daffy became skinnier day by day from taking care of him, that he had once told Mrs.Chan that life is very unstable, and that if anything happens to himself, he would ask Mrs.Chan to take good care of Daffy for him.

Regarding to all those rumours about Gor Gor falling in love with a rich man in Mainland China; and those love rumours related to assistant Kenneth - Mrs.Chan says, "You can't mean that with every single male friend that Gor Gor met, there was a love relationship? That this was very unfair to him and his friends". Then the reason that caused Gor Gor to suicide? Mrs.Chan says that the illness has stuck to him for a period of time already, and he wanted very much to recover and get back to work very quickly; but you cannot hurry with these things. Sometimes if he couldn't think through it he will be paranoid, if only somebody was there next to him to comfort him, the tragedy may not have happened.

The 5 minutes before death: meeting in front of Mandarin Oriental.

There have been rumours saying that on the day of the suicide, Mr.Tong brought a male companion along to meet with Gor Gor, causing him to be emotional unstable. Mrs. Chan attacks the report to be non-sense. She says that on that day, Gor Gor had arranged to meet her at around 5pm at the Mandarin Oriental, but until 6pm or so he still hadn't shown up, and when she called him, he told Mrs.Chan to go wait outside at the hotel entrance 5 minutes later. Ended up she witnessed the tragedy at the hotel entrance. Mrs.Chan refuses to say anymore about the happenings that day. Some guess that it was because Mrs.Chan had always been the one Gor Gor trusted the most, that's why even for his "last" matter, he'd let it be managed by Mrs.Chan.

Told about having been casted a curse upon.

There were heated up rumours saying that Gor Gor had been haunted by evils. Mrs.Chan admits that Gor Gor did tell her about being casted a "curse" upon. That Gor Gor had once told her, that he was told by his friend's "master" friend that he had been casted a curse upon. Mrs.Chan says Gor Gor's music recording has also been obstructed due to his stomach problem, with the acid making his voice raspy. And at the same time, he was worried that his illness would affect his work, so he didn't dare accept any shooting of films, and all of a sudden his self-confidence broke down. Many friends have tried to help him at that time, but some have used the wrong approaches, introducing him any so-called "masters" to tell him things, which made him even more confused and bothered.

many thanks to Eunike and Joanna
