September 11, 2004 - A Date With Leslie Legacy - Screening

On September 11 Leslie Legacy held 3 special screening in Sai Wan Ho at the HK Film Archive. Movies are: 'Woman at 33', 'City of Sand', 'Fast Knot' and '15.16' from 'Under the same roof' TV series: in them Leslie was very young and cute, they are very precious films, rarities which show us how his talent was already flourishing.....

For the first time I met my friends Susanna, Grace and Emma in person!!! And many other friends!!! Such a great emotion and joy!!! I also booked my special T-shirts and jacket of LLA!!!

Many media asked us for interviews and of course we were proud to say everybody that we were in HK just for our Leslie!

Mr. Mak Kei On, director of 'Under the same roof' series, was our special guest!

Acknoledgement: This is Leslie Legacy Association's 2nd film screening, to review the early works of dear Gorgor Leslie Cheung. Taking this opportunity, we would like to acknowledge RTHK for their help, without which the events could not have materialized. Leslie Legacy's 1st screening 'Memories of our Legend' was held in commemoration of Gorgor at the Hong Kong Film Archive on April 1st this year. RTHK kindly helped by making available valuable information on the making of and videotapes of 'City of Sand' and 'Woman at 33', both of which were early productions of RTHK rarely seen or know to many. Thanks to RTHK, Leslie's fans had the opportunity of revisiting Gorgor in his youthful days (while for many it was the first time) and witnessing his charisma and his talents on the big screen as a young actor. In 'The Young Concubine' fans could trace an air of exquisite elegance, something almost aristocratic about Leslie which would flourish, years later, to the fullest as he played the role of a charming, affluent upper-class dandy in 'Rouge'. On the occasion of Gorgor's 48th birthday, RTHK has made our 2nd screening possible by kindly lending to us the videotapes of '15,16' and 'Fast Knot'. Never been screened before, both are early productions of an RTHK TV series, 'Under the same roof'. These two films are especially valuable in that rarely heard of among Leslie's fans, not to mention screening. The memory of Gorgor is with us again today, as it will remain with us, always. All the different characters and roles he played, his charm, his style, his beauty and his artistic attributes as an artist and a superstar; his dedication, his strenght, his grace, and the goodness we see in him as a kind, strong yet and gentle person will be our fondest memory forever. Leslie is the legend of our times. Once again, we thank RTHK for their patronage throughtout these years. In the early years, the producers and the directors of RTHK helped to nurture and polish this young and promising actor by offering various acting opportunities. Not only does it fulfilled Leslie's aspiration of being a director, the invitation itself was a recognition of Leslie's artistic dimensions beyong music and acting, as witnessed by fans and audiences. Thanks to our dear Leslie, who showed us what true beauty was. Ultimately, beauty is more than skin deep. Ethereal beauty, combined with a noble heart and mind, is genuine beauty which can stand up to the test of changing times and values. We will contnue to work, with love and affection, with fans from every corner of the world to extend your legacy in the years to come. - Leslie Legacy Association

September 12, 2004 - A Date With Leslie

On September 12 Leslie Legacy held a wonderful gathering at HK Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. About 400 fans attended, from different nationalities and ages!

It's been such a great emotion for Leslie's Pillow to meet so many friends all together!!! I'm still overwhelmed by the gratitude and the joy to meet you all! At about 12 am we met media once again and we were glad to let them know how great and important Leslie is for us!!!!

Guests and fans started to arrive, carrying flowers, taking pictures, buying souvenirs and reading all the touching messages that many fans from every side of the world sent to LLA! There were messages from Mainland China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Poland, Italy, France, Spain, Finland, Germany, Taiwan, USA, Canada, Malaysia, Australia... Most of them were so beautiful that somebody was moved to tear reading them. You can read them all on the gallery 9122004.

Fans were invited to take part in the lucky draw for posters and to write a message in a very special message board!!

At 2 pm our function started with a clip showing the history of Leslie Legacy Association. Ah Lap introduced our guests: the Master of Ceremony, Miss Vera Lee and our special guest speaker, Mr Edward Lam. Their words were very interesting, funny and sometimes touching. I will provided later a translation of Mr. Lam's speech. He salutes us and he told us he saw us on TV!!! Guests received nice gifts from LLA. Among them... big mini-pillows!

After a short intermission, after Mr. Lam's speech, Ah Lap introduced the video screening session with beautiful and rare clips of Leslie's performances all around the world in his different concerts, interviews and so on! Then fans reached the stage to express their feelings and thoughts on Leslie.

Here my short speech:

I'm so touched to be here. Seeing you’re so many and of course making a long trip like this (12 hours by plane for me, and I’m so scared to fly) is indubitably the sign that the wind is still blowing and Leslie's spirit continues to live. Since I’m not good with words, and I’m not used to speaking to the audience and above all since my English is really terrible, I’ve written my speech like Leslie did at the CASH Ambassador ceremony few years ago. I want to tell you that I’m very happy to be here and meet Susanna and other members of Leslie Legacy Association and many of you… We’ve chatted many times on line both in good and bad times and meeting you in person is one of my dreams and finally it came true. I know well I should have come here before. I know I’m terribly late and I know I would live all my life with this regret. But I know that it’s HIM who brought me here. And during these days I let him leading me everywhere he wanted in this wonderful town. He finally send me a friend eager to come with me in HK and live this adventure. He finally gave me the chance, the courage to come. So I should say, many thanks Leslie. And I want to say that there must be a reason since he wanted me ‘here and now’. I trust him, as always. I'm Italian and I met him for the very first time on Italian silver screen in WKW's "Happy together". Then it was Ning Choi San on an old videotape of "A Chinese ghost story" and the stunning concubine Dieyi in "Farewell my concubine". 8 years have passed from that day and still I'm wondering how a human being could be so special, so perfect, so shining. Sometimes I think what he couldn't bear has been the undermining of this perfection, when his health worsened and he suffered from so much pain. I can't really find the words to describe this feeling of pure devotion. Maybe it's true that we love him unconditionally. I think at least for me this is absolutely true. And it's because of him, because he was a man of passion, a man who loved unconditionally both in and out of the stage, a man who couldn't bear to be conditioned. As Leslie's fans we are a bit annoying sometimes: it's because we carry in our heart some of the wounds which hurt him to death. But in spite of this there is this magic love which keep us together like a huge family scattered in the world. And this is Leslie's miracle. We are many and different, we are from distant countries, we speak different languages, we pray different Gods or no Gods at all, we have different historical backgrounds. We are mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, daughters and sons, because we are of different ages. We flight for thousands miles to come here and gather us together only for him. This is the miracle of Leslie Cheung, something which goes beyond talent and beauty, arts and entertainment. A film critic, whom I have the chance to contact wrote a wonderful article after Leslie’s demise and recently added: 'I guess the mysterious flame of Leslie Cheung will continue to burn as long as the passion of his fans lives'. And there are no doubts the passion of his fans lives!

After my speech other fans shared their feelings: Dorothe from Germany, Kyong from South Korea, another fan-friend from Japan. Then we started to play with our quiz session. Winners got mini-pillows, Leslie's picture and VCDs. Then it was time for the lucky draw for posters: the wonderful giants posters created for the venue were sold to lucky fans who's been chosen drawing their name from a box by Miss Vera Lee. SO HAPPY!!!! I won a poster too!!!!

After 6 pm, we cut the cake for Leslie's Birthday! It was a special cake made with stars by Cova.

Then while lights being turned off, the videoclip of "Star", from "Final Encounter of the Legend" concert was screened. All fans waved blinking lights in the dark and everything was touching and beautiful. On the end we sung the song "GorGor" dedicated to Leslie by one of his fans on April 2003. And everybody was moved to tears.

It's been such a wonderful day, filled with so many different emotions and... Leslie's spirit was surely with us, flying high as always!

More pictures and all fans' messages on the gallery 9122004!

I want to thank you for the bottom of my heart all other members of Leslie Legacy Association and all friends who come to meet me in person! I really don't deserve any gratitude, and it was such a great pleasure to meet you all!! I feel sorry if I couldn't meet someone else, but I do hope we will have another chance next September!!!
