Leslie will shine forever on the Avenue of Stars

Finally we have the official announcement from HKFAA!!! Leslie Cheung will shine forever on the Avenue of Stars!!!

Right after April 1st 2003, when the project of the Avenue of Stars has been announced, many many fans started to write letters to request HKTB and HKFAA to add Leslie's name (if palm prints weren't available) to the Avenue, as he naturally deserved. While HKTB informed fans that they have to forward their appeal to HKFAA, responsible of the choice of stars' names, HKFAA often refused to receive messages and provide a reply.

On December 2003, we decided to organise a more efficient appeal, collecting signatures and personal datas of fans from every side of the world. At that time we wanted to collect at least 1,000 signatures, then 2,000... but at the end of the campaign we collected more than 3,500 signatures, THANKS TO ALL OF YOU! In meantime we've been harshly attacked for our action, attacked and defamed in many websites. In spite of this, the outstanding success of our appeal, thanks to the trust and the belief of so many of you, allowed us to present to HKTB more than 3,500 signatures in two batches along with our letter and other supporting material. Apart from HKTB, letters were brought to authorities of higher rank through a special connection.

Since HKTB is a governmental organization and they cannot do anything without some formal nominator from outside, HKTB requested Leslie Legacy to register formally with the government. So, Leslie Legacy Association Ltd. was being registered formally with the HK government upon HKTB's request. After the registration, HKTB nominated Leslie Legacy Association as the formal nominator of Leslie for the Avenue of Stars and that's how Leslie was nominated for the Avenue of Stars for the first time.

On February 6, 2004, we received a message from the Hong Kong Tourism Board confirming that Leslie’s name would have definitely appeared on the Avenue of Stars. But the date for official announcement wasn't fixed yet.

On April 15, 2004 finally HKFAA gave the official announcement: our Leslie will shine forever in the Avenue of Stars!

Since the day we first launched this campaign on December 18, 2003, we had gone through different emotions: expectation, discouragement, anxiety, disappointment, agony, stress for heavy workload and now finally joy! We would like to thank all those who have sent their signatures, all those who have worked so hard to make this dream come true and all those who have supported us. Many thanks to all fans who wrote to HKTB and HKFAA in any possible way.

We would like also remember here that, with the same appeal, we requested HKFAA for a Life Achievement Award. In spite of the adverse opinion showed by Mr. Manfred Wong, on February 3, 2004 the chairman of HKFAA said in a press conference that HKFAA received numerous requests from many Leslie fans all over the world for the 'Life Achievement Award' to be honored to Leslie. And finally... this is another dream come true. On April 4, 2004 during the 22nd HKFAA Awards ceremony Mr. Tong Hok Tak received the Performing Art Forever Brilliance Award on behalf of his beloved longtime companion Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing!

We would like to thank:

Mei of Malaysia - for her inspiration of R.E.D. Mission (the original meaning of R.E.D. and not the one incorporated by Cyberworld), Kuniko of Japan and the Japanese Fan Club - for their wonderful support and generosity and Kuniko's intelligence; Kingka, Kyong and Kelly of Korea - for their great co-ordination in Korea, Rong Xueyan and May Tang of Mainland China - for their understanding, encouragement and co-ordination in China.
Vivi Ho of Taiwan - for her enormous enthusiasm in collecting signatures in Taiwan.
Mr. V. Chan of HKTB and Mrs. Chung of Commissioner for Tourism - for their tremendous help throughout the course of the campaign.
Lastly, the 3,500+ fans who signed for the campaign - for their beautiful hearts for Leslie.

With love and so much gratitude,

Leslie Legacy Association

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM LESLIE LEGACY ASSOCIATION

Leslie will shine on the Avenue Of Stars!

What is more overwhelming is, his palm prints have just been announced to be found in US, told Mr. Chan Yan Kin, during the preview of the Avenue tonight.

Since our Angel Leslie is now resting in heaven & will not be able to attend this ceremony, we urge you to show your support by sending flowers during the opening ceremony on April 27 (next Tuesday); and if possible, please try best to show your presence as a physical support to Leslie.

There will be an official ceremony at 19:30pm on 27th April, 2004 (next Tuesday) at the waterfront of Tsim Sha Tsui. Most of the selected movie celebrities who will have their palm prints appear on the avenue will attend this ceremony. Although Leslie cannot be present physically, we believe that he will be the most brilliant among the 73 celebrities and the shiniest star on the Avenue! His talent, versatility, creativity will live on generations after generations.

All celebrities' fans cannot enter the venue but fans can of course show their support at the entrance. However, as per the liaison between Leslie Legacy Association (LLA) and HKTB, we are very glad that Leslieˇ¦s fans are allowed to place flowers alongside the Avenue. We urge each of you to send flowers to pay tribute to Leslie on this occasion, so that a 'sea of flowers' for Leslie will be created along the Avenue. Flowers from overseas fans are especially important as it demonstrates how popular Leslie is among the world.

To promote the Avenue of Stars, HKTB will shoot a short documentary of this ceremony. The presence of these flowers dedicated to Leslie will in fact be a visual proof of Leslie's utmost importance to the movie & tourism industry of Hong Kong, and more importantly, they represent the presence of Leslie, walking on the Avenue!

We are grateful by your efforts & supports during the appeal. Now, we urge you to do your utmost again to show our forever love to our forever Legend.

For the convenience of overseas fans, here is an online shop where you can place your order:
