Leslie For A Child
Charity for Love

We, Leslie Legacy Association Hong Kong members received a call from Peggy Foo on November 30 and Peggy stated the case explained below to us. She wants to help the little boy in the name of Leslie and she raised the wonderful idea of appealling to all Leslie fans, worldwide to donate money to aid the medical expenses for the little boy. As a gesture of gratitude, she would like to give away 100 numbers of  2005 calendar with 12-page pictures of Leslie in his Passion Tour. We were so touched by her idea and we are ready to help in every possible way. So, the first thing is to purchase the calendars in the quantity needed. Since the calendar was on the market since September and they are scarcely found in news stands nowadays. With the drive inspired by Peggy, we set out on December 1 and visited  many news stands and eventually we managed to collect 100 calendars at end of the day. They were couriered to Peggy in the morning of December 2, 2004.

Please kindly read the translation below (translated by Sim of Australia) of the appeal published on the Chinapress. If you would like to help the little patient in Malaysia in the name of Leslie, please send your donation per the details stated in the news. See scanned copy of the original news in Chinese below.

Fan of Leslie Cheung donates calendars towards fundraising appeal for Lim Yi Harng’s medical expense.

(News from Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia) A female fan of Leslie Cheung has donated 100 Leslie Cheung calendars to help raise funds for Lim Yi Harng who suffers from malignant brain tumor.

Perhaps in this day and age people are not too inclined to perform acts of benevolence. However there are still some good Samaritans among us who continue to pour warmth into a very realistic and materialistic society with their goodwill and generosity. Carrying on her idol's charitable spirit, a devoted fan of Leslie Cheung for many years, Peggy Foo, has entrusted a friend to purchase at her own expense 100 Leslie Cheung calendars from Hong Kong to be donated to a charity appeal in Leslie Cheung's name to raise funds for the medical expenses for a young Malaccan boy who suffers from a malignant brain tumor.

Peggy Foo indicated that this fundraising event is not only able to carry forward the kind benevolent spirit of Leslie Cheung but at the same time it also provides aid for some unfortunate people in society. Peggy Foo also appealed to all fans of Leslie Cheung and readers of this newspaper to display their commendable and compassionate spirit. They would be able help the family of Lim Yi Harng by getting a copy of the Leslie Cheung calendar for a minimum contribution of 100 Malaysian ringgit.

It is reported that seven-year-old Lim Yi Harng was confirmed several months ago to be suffering from a malignant brain tumor. He is presently undergoing treatment at a Singapore hospital. During this period he has undergone four operations and is in urgent need for funds of approximately 330,000 ringgit to cover medical fees for a year of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments.

Peggy Foo decided to help raise funds for young Lim Yi Harng after reading his plight in the English Language newspapers. She personally telephoned Lim Yi Harng’s father, Lim Chian Hong, to have a better understanding of his son’s medical condition. At the same time it became apparent to her that both husband and wife have already exhausted their life savings to cover their son’s huge medical bill and they are now in deep financial difficulties.

Peggy Foo expressed that Leslie Cheung was not only an extremely charitable person during his lifetime but he was also particularly concerned over the health and welfare of young children. She strongly believes that if the spirit of Leslie Cheung in Heaven knew about Lim Yi Harng’s condition, he would definitely stretch out his helping hands to aid him in a very practical way.

Presently by launching this fundraising event in the name of her idol, Peggy Foo hopes everyone would not hesitate to donate generously towards this cause to help young Lim Yi Harng. She said, "Although I know the final total of funds raised in this appeal may not be sufficient to cover all the medical fees of Lim Yi Harng and the calendar is by no means a very precious gift but I really hope that there will be many kind people who would donate generously; they will be able to help him just by making a contribution of a little over 100 ringgit".

Peggy Foo pointed out that if donors exceed 100 people, she hopes that those who do not receive a calendar would not be offended in any way. The important matter is to continue to donate generously towards helping the Lim family.

Readers who wish to participate in this charity appeal are invited to send their cheque to The China Press Berhad, Business Development Department, 80 Jalan Riong, Off Jalan Bangsar, 59100 Kuala Lumpur. Cheque should be made payable to Lim Chian Hong. The name of the donor written in both Chinese and English together with the telephone number and address should be clearly stated on the back of the cheque.

Here is a gentle reminder that the first 100 persons who donated over 100 ringgit will receive a 2005 Leslie Cheung calendar. The Business Development Department of The China Press Berhad will inform the donors concerned to pick up the calendars directly from the publication’s head office in Kuala Lumpur or from any of the other branches.

Sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks to all kind donors.

Father of Lim Yi Harng

Reporter: Ong Wai Ha

Ever since the unfortunate condition of Lim Yi Harng’s malignant brain tumor was made public, many has come forth to lend a helping hand to provide aid to seven-year-old Lim Yi Harng. At the same time, a fan of Leslie Cheung has also launched a fundraising appeal to help the young Lim. Father Lim Chian Hong expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all kind donors.

Lim Chian Hong revealed that his son is still presently undergoing chemotherapy treatment in Singapore. He said the effects of the chemotherapy treatment such as vomiting and dizziness has caused his son’s weight to drop to only 20 kilos which made his son a painful sight to behold.

Lim Chian Hong disclosed that he decided to send his son to Singapore for treatment following the advice of a friend. Although his son’s condition has finally stabilized but the entire course of treatment was like fighting a great battle. In a helpless tone, Lim Chian Hong said it was a good thing that his son is an optimistic child who rarely complained of pain or discomfort during the course of his treatment but as soon as he had to leave him behind in the Singapore hospital to return to work in Malacca, his son would throw a tantrum and start to cry immediately.
