Le piastrine di vetro colato muranesi dell'OttocentoVenetian Glass Plaques of the 19th Century
Al Museo del Vetro di Murano ci sono due piastrine cinquecentesche di vetro colato, ricavate dallo stesso stampo, che portano incavato il busto del doge Andrea Gritti. La tecnica di queste piastrine è stata riproposta nel periodo della ripresa dell'arte vetraria muranese tardo ottocentesca. C'è però una differenza: nelle prime l'incavo non è protetto posteriormente, mentre nelle piastrine ottocentesche è coperto da uno strato vitreo, cioè è racchiuso tra due vetri.
Il Museo conserva alcuni dischi e placche in vetro con rilievo a foglia d'oro attribuibili a Salviati e alla Compagnia Venezia Murano, e ve ne sono anche in altri musei e collezioni private.
Probabilmente sono stati presentati per la prima volta all'Esposizione di Milano del 1881 dalle due ditte.
Per la CVM sono stati realizzati da Vincenzo Moretti, che ne ha lasciato traccia nella casa dei suoi figli a Murano e nelle collezioni di alcuni suoi discendenti.
At the Museum of Glass on the island of Murano, there are two 16th century tiles of cast glass, obtained from the same stamp, with the hollow bust of the doge Andrea Gritti. The technique used to make these plaques was reintroduced during the 19th century. When the technique was first employed, the hollow area behind the plaque was not protected, but the revised version called for covering the hollow area with additional glass, so that the plaque was contained between two layers of glass.
The Murano museum also houses some glass disks and plaques with gold-leaf relief attributed to Salviati and the Compagnia Venezia Murano (CVM). There are also examples in other museums and in private collections.
It is possible that the two firms presented these objects for the first time at the exhibition in Milan in 1881. The pieces from the CVM were made by Vincenzo Moretti, who left evidence of his work in his sons’ home on Murano and in the collections of some of his descendants.
