Drug interactions

Interaction with aminoglycosides Four cases of transient acute renal failure after concurrent administration of intravenous ibuprofen and aminoglycoside antibiotics (tobramicin; gentamicin) were described in an article appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine (1998). Patients were aged 2 - 16 years. Aminoglycosides renal toxicity is potentiated by NSAIDs, because the later inhibit the production of renal vasodilating prostaglandins (PGE2) and prostacyclin.
This interaction is not described in the italian Summary of Product Characteristics of ibuprofene.
