The Quartetto Savinio was founded in Napoli in 2000. Since then the Quartet has been awarded prizes in several competitions: they won first prize at the 17th. “Provincia di Caltanissetta” il quartetto International Chamber Music Competition, the V. Rimbotti Prize (Accademia Europea del Quartetto), and third prize at the Shostakovich International String Quartet Competition in Moscow. After these achievements the Savinio has been invited to play at prominent concert societies. These have included the Associazione Mozart Italia, Pace University (New York), Istituto Italiano di Cultura (Washington), Tchaikowski Hall (Moscow), Festival S. Stefano (Bologna), Università Cattolica di Roma, Festival di Ravello, Amici della musica di Firenze, Padova, Pistoia, Foligno, Modena, Festival di Portogruaro, Italian Embassy in Paris, Wilton Hall (London), Teatro Municipal (Saõ Paolo, Brasil), Associazione Lingotto Musica Torino, Fondazione Piccinni (Bari), Teatro Verdi (Salerno). The Quartet was also heard live on Radio3 RAI (the italian public radio) from the Quirinale Palace in Rome.

At the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, and thanks to the “Accademia Europea del Quartetto” they have explored the repertoire with renowned teachers including Piero Farulli, Norbert Brainin, Milan Skampa, Hatto Beyerle, V. Berlinsky and Z. Gal.

Their plans for the immediate future include concerts at Teatro Diana in Napoli, Istituto Italiano in Köln, Emilia Romagna Festival, Festival di Musica da Camera di Ravello (invited by Roman Vlad), Teatro Bellini in Napoli, Società del Quartetto in Vercelli, Teatro Gonfalone in Roma, Conservatorio S. Pietro a Majella, Musica Insieme Bologna, Festival Paganini Parma, Associazione Mozart Italia, Rapallo Festival, Associazione Filarmonica Umbra, and the opening of the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna.

They will continue their collaboration with pianists such as François-Joel Thiollier (with whom they will record Schumann's quintet op. 44), Bruno Canino, Antonello Cannavale and Roberto Cominati, with the guitarist G. Bandini (with whom they will tour Italy and Germany performing Boccherini's quintets integrally), with the clarinettist C. Giuffredi and the harmonicist L. Littera.

A CD containing a live recording by the Quartetto Savinio of F. Vacchi's “Movimento di Quartetto” has been published by the italian music magazine Amadeus.

Alberto Savinio was the pseudonym of Andrea De Chirico (1891-1952), one of the leading artists of twentieth century Italy. Driven by an insatiable intellectual curiosity he was also a writer, musician and man of the theatre.
