NAZARENES
'ORIT'
Another fine gift of the African Reggae: the Nazarenes.
The brothers Madhane and Noah Isac Tewolde they are native of
Eritrea and have to long lived in Ethiopia, before transferring themselves
in Sweden and giving life to their original one (then we will see why)
african reggae with the name of Nazarenes.
It goes said that the two, a lot popular in Ethiopia and Eritrea,
collected not an indifferent success also in Sweden and Germany, where
their ‘Orit’ is
distributed by a major, if do not I wander the BMG; besides this the two
singer have shown many times also in Italy obtaining unanimous approvals.
I spoke first about the originality of the duet: this it is
embodied in different appearance of the music of the Nazarenes.
Above all the two African artists with this disk were the first on
the reggae world to sing in Trigrignia, the ancient tongue of Eritrea,
sinking the roots of their actual reggae in the dawning of the afro
culture . Also musically
speaking, this ‘Orit’ is an album of African reggae very unusual; in
fact, the riddims on which the delightful and ancient vocal harmonies of
the twos extend themselves are a sort of electric one drop, the work of a
bulky use of keyboards and digital instrumentation.
So the main inspiration, like for almost all of the reggae African,
remains the easy skanking style of Bob Marley, but in an un-heard before
(at least for the African artists) electro-literally-hypnotic version.
To increase the hypnosis effect there are
the vocal harmonies of the two vocalists, surely rooted in the
tradition of the Abyssinians and of the Israel Vibration, but
characterized by an oriental and mysterious taste , typically West African.
For these reasons I believe that ‘Orit’ is a chapter absolutely
not to lose in the history of African Reggae and not only.
