GRETSCH 6119 Chet Atkins TENNESSEAN, 1960

The original version of the Tennessean, the rarest (three years only) and  biggest-sounding one! Conceived as the basic hollowbody in the Chet Atkins line, a sort of 6120's little sister, it was - and is - a fantastic guitar. Equipped with a single FilterTron humbucking pickup, it shares many features of the 6120 including a simpler version of the internal sound-post bracing system, oval-button Grover StaTite tuners, 16" body width with single rounded cutaway, "signpost" Atkins logo on the pickguard (which is black instead of gold), Bigsby vibrato.
The guitar you see here comes from the very last production run as you can see from a few details: the thinner body - almost a thinline depth, the solid black headstock veneer, the Gretsch by Bigsby V-Cutout vibrato tailpiece (see also the '59 we have sold last year, now in our
archive). Other features are the typical neck-dowel on the side of the neck joint, single G-arrow volume knob, single tone switch, neo-classic rosewood fretboard with thumbprint inlays, Zero-Fret, chrome hardware, T-Roof Gretsch logo and aluminum pre-compensated Bigsby bridge.
This guitar has been played. It has a lot of checking, heavier next to the f-holes - see pics - but the vibrant red color is still very very strong and unfaded. Some belt-buckle wear, some fretboard wear (frets and action are OK), some neck wear, some scratches in the bridge-base area. Binding is solid and original, only one very small piece is missing in the back. Neck-body angle is correct, and the guitar is strong, solid, original and ready to play. Great classic FilterTron twang! The case is the original hardshell grey case, in excellent condition except for a home-made repair at the original handle.
