Solidly built, this lens weighs just 525 grams. A non-rotating front is a further benefit. Thanks to two Hybrid Aspheric elements, this glass ensures a good optical performance with thorough compensation of distorsion and comatic flare. Like most wideangle AF zooms, it employs an Internal Focusing (IF) mechanism which leads to a faster AF response. The complex multi-element design of this lens gives rise to severe ghosting when sunrays impinge on the front element, despite multi-coating on the glass surfaces (click here to see a counterlight shot). My sample has a colder color rendition than my Nikkor lenses, with a slight green color cast. According to the MTF tests performed by Photodo (www.photodo.com), this wideangle zoom is rated among the sharpest ones available on the market.
