THE VALLEY OF THE TEMPLES
The exciting architectural remains of the ancient city arc scattered over this valley, which is unique for the vastness of its views and the richness of its landscape, setting and monuments. The whole creates an intense Mediterranean vista, made almost fairylike by the play of colours, the intense scent of flowers and earth and the luminous presence of the sea which allays, with its constant breezes, the fierce rays of the Sicilian sun. From December to March the flowering of the aimonds gives the place the appearance of a enchanted dream, celebrated with fairs and popular festivities. The temple zone can be reached by car from the state highroad and on foot from the Piazza Marconi in the centre of town.
