Sambuca di Sicilia (roughly 7000 inhabitants ) is situated in the western part of the province of Agrigento. It was founded by the Emir al Zabut (the Splendid )immediately after the Arab landing in 827. An entire area of the town demonstrates there origins (Vicoli Saraceni ) that have just recently been restored and a fortress (Mazzallakkar ) on Lake Arancio. Sambuca (Sambuca Zabut until 1923 ) has developed both culturally and ubanistically. The churches of Carmine, of St. Catherine, of St. Joseph and of the Conception; the Palace Beccadelli, Cassa Rurale, Ciaccio, Arpa (the Town Hall) and Panitteri (XV century )that should become the Town's Museum; the local Theatre ''L'ideA'' (1850 ); THE Belvedere terrace together with the monumental church of the Matrice; the Towers of Cellaro and Pandolfina; the convents are demonstration of this development. Sambuca with Gianbecchina Institute, which collects, in the church of St. Calogero, the works of the famous painter from Sambuca ; with the Sabatino Moscati Institute, for the archaeological site of Adranone; with the Teatro Comunale Institute ''L'ideA'', place of theatrical activites and artistic training, proposes itself as a ''Cultural Town'' and therefore a tourist location. Adranone is north of Sambuca, a greek-punic agglomeration (VII-VI century b.c. ) that saw the light after important archeological excavations, with it's necropolis, it's important fortified walls 5 Km long. It is the highest punic agglomeration of the Mediterranean, rich of ruins and other exceptional archaeological finds. South, in the Valley of the Windmills, Lake Arancio, with the Federal Centre of Aquatic Sports. Sambuca, is the Heart of Nautical Skiing, since 1983 it is twinned with Winter Haven (Florida- USA ) which is the world capital of nautical skiing. The World Championships of Nautical Skiing, Canoeing and Winsurf are heid on this lake. The area around Sambuca is rich with forests, near the lake we find the Risinata Park, with picnic and barbecure areas, public services, children games, crystal clear water. Excellent wines are produced, with the DOC (controlled Denomination of Origin ) mark, as Cellaro, Monte Olimpo, Planeta. Besides grapes, cheese, oil and olives are also produced. The local food is typical and genuine. The hospitality offered the locals is very warm.

Sambuca di Sicilia è una cittadina di circa 7.000 abitanti, situata a circa 100 Km sia da Agrigento che da Palermo. Fondata dall'Emiro saraceno Zabut (Lo Splendido) intorno all'830, subito dopo lo sbarco degli Arabi in Sicilia, Sambuca presenta ancora vive le caratteristiche del periodo saraceno. Un intero quartiere (Vicoli Saraceni), costituito da un impianto urbano che si sviluppa intorno a sette strettissimi vicoli ed un fortino, Mazzallakkar, sulle sponde del Lago Arancio, testimoniano questa origine. Tra gli edifici rilevanti, per la funzione culturale, meritano una particolare attenzione Palazzo Panitteri e il Teatro Comunale. Palazzo Panitteri, sede fino a qualche anno fa del Museo etnoantropologico della Terra di Zabut e del Salotto sambucese, è adesso in fase di restauro. E' un massiccio edificio di circa 500mq. Costruito tra il XV e il XVI secolo. Una scala in stile catalano porta al piano superiore costituito da un salone con soffitto a cassettoni e luminose sale per ricevimenti dalle pareti dipinte. Il Museo Etnoantropologico, temporaneamente ubicato in un'abitazione del Quartiere Arabo, raccoglie gli oggetti necessari per le varie fasi della produzione del grano e del formaggio. Il Salotto sambucese dell'800, anch'esso ospitato in una sede provvisoria nel Quartiere Arabo, è la ricostruzione di un periodo storico di Sambuca. In esso sono presenti, riprodotti in cera: Francesco Crispi, Emanuele Navarro della Miraglia, Vincenzo Navarro, Gorge Sand, Oreste Barattieri e Vincenzo Giordano Orsini. Il Teatro Comunale è stato edificato verso il 1850 da alcuni sambucesi amanti dell'arte. Gioiello dell'artigianato locale, presenta una forma classica a ferro di cavallo, con catino sovrastante schiacciato, con tre ordini di palchi e la platea. Vi si svolge una intensa e varia attività con l'esibizione di compagnie e di artisti di notevole grido. Recentemente è stata inaugurata una pinacoteca che ospita le opere del pittore sambucese Giambecchina ed ha sede nella Chiesa di S. Calogero. Il Lago Arancio è un invaso artificiale che domina la campagna di Sambuca con la sua presenza suggestiva. Grazie anche alla zona di rimboschimento, che per buona parte ne corona il perimetro, risulta un bene naturalistico di grande fascino. Ha una capacità di invaso di 32,8 x 106 metri cubi e occupa una superficie di 3,7 Kmq.circa. A Nord di Sambuca, a circa 1000 metri s.l.m. sorge Adranone (VI sec. a..C.). Gli scavi hanno portato alla luce una ricchissima necropoli, il quartiere artigianale, 5 Km di mura e templi.
