CONCLUSION

The Catholic Church in Sri Lanka as we find it today is what has been shaped and formed in the course of its history, which we have seen. At great cost to themselves, first European missionaries, then missionaries from India, led by the heroic and saintly apostle Joseph Vaz, built up Lanka's Church which today and in the years to come has to be tended and nurtured by native bishops and native clergy and religious. Their pastoral concern should be directed on the one hand to the deepening and strengthening of the faith and spiritual life of the Catholics themselves; and on the other to bring to the non-Christians of the country a knowledge of Christ and His teaching. In carrying out these tasks, Lanka's pastors can have no better model, guide and source of inspiration than the great Apostle of the country, Blessed Joseph Vaz.
