KARENINA.IT
Karenina è topos letterario e "punto it" rimanda a
un'inedita mutazione digitale e telematica. Karenina.it, come
Spazi, risorse,
lavoro redazionale: Karenina.it
arti elettroniche), Francesco Muzzioli (poeta e critico
letterario), Antonio Caronia (esperto di fantascienza),
Julien Blaine (poeta visivo), Mirella Bentivoglio (poeta
visivo), Massimo Mori (poeta performativo), Gio
Ferri (critica letteraria e multimedia), Philadepho
Menezes (poeta sperimentale e docente universitario di
Comunicazione e Semiotica), Nando Vitale (tecnoculture
e teoria della rete), Tommaso Trini (arte). La
realizzazione presenta incursioni ipertest-visive che portano
in rete e combinano alla comunicazione telematica alcune
tecniche della poesia visiva. "Karenina.IT" utilizza
struttura dell'opera. Le pagine sono costantemente aggiornate
nella grafica e nei contenuti.

I
CONTENUTI
Karenina.it pubblica
interventi teorici sui nuovi media, sull'avanguardia e sulla
neoavanguardia letteraria, recensisce libri, mostre,
scrittura, arti visive, tecnologie digitali, comunicazione
telematica, è quindi uno spazio nel quale confluiscono
numerose esperienze molto diverse tra loro.
LA
SITUAZIONE ITALIANA
d'immagine, costruite intorno a prodotti in realtà troppo
"facili", contrabbandano per avanguardia e per il
nuovo.
COLLABORAZIONI
CON ALTRE RIVISTE
Karenina.it
panorama italiano dell'ultimo decennio.
Esistono poi
"PUBBLICO"?
A seguirci sono
soprattutto artisti, scrittori, critici, studenti universitari
e docenti, ricercatori, animatori di altri siti culturali on
Sebbene
Karenina.it
parla italiano, inglese, francese e
spagnolo.

KARENINA.IT was born
in 1998 as art / communication project on line by Caterina
Davinio. It is a virtual place of aggregation, an open space
in which the experiences of numerous artists, curators,
theorists, who are involved in visual art, writing,
experimental poetry related with new media, come together. The name of this art /
literature project on line comes from a great female character
of literature: Anna Karenina. Karenina is a literary topos and "point
it" alludes to an unusual digital and telematic
mutation. Karenina.it,
as virtual space, is the inside referring to the
narration: the character becomes free from its author, begins
to be independent, the artwork auto generates itself with the
technologies, with the
intervention of the
navigators, who contribute
to realize it. Anna
karenina is a passionate character of the 19th
century, created by Tolstoj, in a certain sense she is a
victim of the social conventions of her times; Karenina.it
is the time of the declaration of independence of the art-work
from the author. Spaces, resources,
redactional work:
Karenina.it
utilizes a free space of Geocities and the time and the
experiences of people who co-operate. The only limit to the
collaboration is the pertinence with determinate arguments,
which are those of the site, and the experimental cut of the proposals. The Redaction work is
based on e-mail contacts. The web pages are realized with
various editors, animation programs and image editors. The
textual and iconographic material, which appears in the site,
belongs to numerous artists; among the first artists and
criticws who joit to the project: Caterina Davinio
(art director, multimedia poet), Marco Maria Gazzano
(critic of electronic art), Francesco Muzzioli (poet,
critic), Antonio Caronia (science fiction), Julien
Blaine (visual poet), Mirella Bentivoglio (visual
poet), Massimo Mori (performer), Gio Ferri (poet,
critic), Philadepho Menezes (experimental poet,
professor of Communication and Semiotics), Nando Vitale (techno-culture
and theory of the net), Tommaso Trini (art critic). The
realization presents hypertext-visual incursions which bring
in the net and combine with the telematic communication some
techniques typical of the visual poetry. Karenina.it
utilizes objects (textual and not) found in the net, digital
ready-made, virtual reality fragments; in it, the finding and
moving of the information is action of the performance and
art-work structure. The web pages are constantly updated in
graphic and in the contents.

CONTENTS
Karenina.it
publishes interventions about new media theory, about literary
avant-garde and neo-avant-garde, articles about books,
exhibitions, festivals, magazines and web magazines, web
sites; we have dedicated some monographic pages to the
protagonists of Italian electronic art and international
visual poetry. Karenina.it
is an open project which involves all the artists who
experiment new languages in the contamination area between
writing, visual art, digital technologies, telematic
communication; by this way, it is a space in which numerous
experiences, very different from each other, come together.
The co-coordinator of Karenina.it
project (Caterina Davinio) is one of the first artists in
Italy, together with few others, who have brought the
attention of the public and of the critic to the connections
between experimental poetry and technologies, by organizing,
since the beginning of the 90ties itinerant festivals (Art
Electronics And Other Writings, 94-95, Electronic
Poe(try)visions, 96, 97, 98, 2000, Virtual Words, 99) which
have brought the Italian performance and visual poetry in
contact with the circuit of the video, computer and web art.
One of this festival, Electronie d'arte e
altre scritture,
in 94, ended with a meeting at Pecci Museum of Prato: more
than eighty artists from all over the world and numerous
Italian and international critics and cultural operators took
part in it. More information about the festivals of
video/computer-art-poetry, which draw an international
scenario of video and computer poetry in the 90ties, can be
found in the Art Electronics Cultural Association official
site http://space.tin.it/arte/cprezi
The collected videos
have formed a no profit archive, which is at disposition of
fine arts academies, universities, schools, institutions.
The Italian cultural situation? Now
is deeper the division between the commercial literature and
the research one, at the point that the second one remains oft
in a circuit of experts and sometimes does not arrive to be
published. Some of the greatest authors of the past would not
find a publisher for their works. It exists also a commercial
art and a literature which marketing operations, built on too
"easy" products, propose as avant-garde, as
"the new". Mainly is
difficult to present to the public something of complex, that
makes not possible an immediate approach. Our initiative was
born to give space also to that part of literature, art and
experimentation, which finds its origin in a complex thought,
which is not product for the market and does not wont to
became this, but that do not renounce to a visibility and to
write a page of the Italian culture of this years.
CO-OPERATION
WITH OTHER MAGAZINES
Karenina.it co-operates with "Testuale", the review
of critic of contemporaneous poetry, and with "Codici
Immaginari" (Imaginary Codes), a fanzine, born in Rome,
of cyberpunk culture, curated
by Nando Vitale; both this experiences, also in the difference
which characterize them, represent significant moments in the
Italian situation. Numerous occasional collaborations are
activated with other cultural publications, as newsletter and
web sites in the world.
OUR
PUBLIC?
Mainly composed by artists, writers, critics, university
students and teachers, researchers, animators of other web
sites, which help us by sending news and proposals.
The
confrontation is very important, because it has became not
only a medium, but the purpose of the art and the art itself
like it appears in the web: an ensemble of relationships, in
which author and spectators interact to create a communication
flux. Far from the hyconoclastic spirit which characterizes
some experiences of web art (we do not renounce to hedonism
and to the playful pleasure of the images), we believe that
the meaning of the web art is in the performative quality of
the communic/action on line; our experimentation, is bounded
by a way to the visual poetry, and, for what it has of
technologic and kinetic, to the futurism; in a performative
dimension it accepts and repropose the experience of the
international performing poetry. In this, and not only in the
production of digital images and sounds more or less "of
art", stays what is to be defined "the new". This is
because we created Karenina.it. After having been organizing
and taking part for many years in meetings, festivals and
multimedia poetry parties in the most important cities of
Italy and of the world, we wonted to create an open
experience, a virtual meeting, which makes possible new
approaches to the thematic of the experimental writing and the
new technologies.
