Why PCMCIA cards work with Blizzard 1260

This is a SIMPLIFIED memory map of an A1200: (don't take it as gold).

AddressDescriptionSize
$000000-$1FFFFFCHIP RAM2 MB
$200000-$5FFFFF24 Bit addressing FAST RAM4 MB
$600000-$9FFFFFPCMCIA Card addressing space OR Fast Ram4 MB
Maximum ram with internal EC020 (24Bit addressing)10Mb total
$A00000-$FFFFFFReserved Space (Autoconfig, ROM of Expansion boards etc)
$1000000-$FFFFFFF32 Bit Addressing Spaceabout 4GB

The Blizzard 1260 make it's RAM to appear at about the middle of the 32 Bit Addressing range, so even with the board fully populated you can't interfere with the PCMCIA addressing space.

My Showconfig output:

PROCESSOR:CPU 68040/68040fpu
CUSTOM CHIPS:AA PAL Alice (id=$0023), AA Lisa (id=$00F8)
VERS:Kickstart version 39.106, Exec version 39.47, Disk version 39.29
RAM:Node type $A, Attributes $505 (FAST), at $57000000-$5877FFFF (23.5 meg)

Note the addressing FAR from the PCMCIA range.

Node type $A, Attributes $703 (CHIP), at $2000-$1FFFFF (~2.0 meg)
BOARDS:
Board + ROM (HD?) (unidentified): Prod=8512/17($2140/$11) (@$EA0000 128K)

Do you own a Classic Squirrel?

If you are an owner of the above mentioned card, and you are encountering problems like slow transfers or other strange behaviors, you should download the latest squirrel drivers from
Hisoft Page (that are 68060 compatible), and update the 68060.library downloading it from Phase5's Ftp Site.
