Mario Colaps
Mario Colaps was born in Portici (Naples) where he lives and works. He is full professor of Sculpture at the State School of Arts in Torre del Greco (Naples). He partecipated in the International Courses of Graphic Art of Urbino, obtaining diplomas and honours. He is credited with numerous personal and collective art exhibitions. His works of sculpture and graphic art can be see in Italian and Foreign public and private collections, mainly at Oxford, Wien, Chicago, Caracas, Washington, Rio de Janeiro, Paris. Among his works are masterpieces such as "Via Crucis", "The Baptismal Font" of great dimension and the "Christ of the great hands" and "Madonna with child" of natural bigness which are venerated in the church of S.S. Salvatore in Herculaneum. Just in the public park in Portici, near the International Sport Center, his "Monument to the brotherhood" has been erected. The University of Naples has honoured professor Renato Caccioppoli with a monumental bust, by Colaps, placed in the "Battaglini hall" of the Math Department, wich has been named after him. Recently he realised a new Via Crucis a bas-relief in natural terra-cotta in the S. Pasquale's Basilica in Portici (NA).
