Aurora Tazza received her architecture degree from the La Sapienza University
of Rome with a thesis in museum design. After working for years in publishing design
and naturalistic illustration, in the early 1990s she started doing portraits of plant
life and studying the ancient Botanical Art.
Since then, she has participated in number exhibitions in Italy and abroad, winning,
for example, first prize at 2000 The Herb Society Competition, Baltimore, and the
Silver Gilt Medal of the Royal Horticultural Society in 2003. In 1999, ACE
(Agricultural Communicators in Education Critique) presented her with a Gold
Award honoring the calendar she illustrated for IPGRI's 25th anniversary.
Tazza's work is included in the collection of the Hunt Institute for Botanical
Documentation, Carnegie Mellon University of Pittsburgh, the Dr Shirley Sherwood
collection in the IPGRI (International Plant Genetic Resources Institute) collection and
numerous private collections. Her works have been published by the Italian Region of
Basilicata and by IPGRI. There is also a limited edition of her work published by The Herb
Society of America.
Along with her own production, she also teaches Botanical Painting at the Rome Botanical
Gardens and at the Officina dell'Arte.
