From Now On

Many days have gone since Gor Gor passed away, yet it's still so hard to cope with it and find right words to express this grief. Dreams and imaginations, scenes of his real life and movies and concerts... all of them are so mixed up and they keep on appearing in my mind.

In this page I would like to collect some news after his passing. There are many activities in Hong Kong - a town dramatically struck by SARS - to remember him: his movies are screened again and again and old and new fans queue up to attend. There are memorial events in many places; his CDs, VCDs and DVDs are selling very well from Hong Kong to Canada and they need to be printed again to fulfill the high request. Producer of "Farewell to my concubine" announced that the movie will be soon released on VDC/DVD and earning from selling will go to the Massachusetts Mental Health Institute for the study of depression: this is a very good thing. I wonder if he could see all this love and devotion from Heaven, since once he said: "I may be a little passé...". I do hope you could see it, Leslie.

News about Gor Gor continue, just like the wind continues to blow. It's not very easy, especially for a westerner, choosing which kind of news are actually news and which kind of news are filth and speculation. Almost every days reporters assault Leslie and Mr. Tong's house to know about Daffy and take, with a bit of fortune, a picture of him. Few days ago Police has been called to drive out an insane fellow who tried to break into their house. How disgusting! Of course news are that Mr. Tong is spending his days without Leslie in deep grief and Leslie's sister's family, as same as good friends like Ms. Florence Chan, often pay him their visit in order to keep him company and help him to find a way to overcome this unbearable sorrow. Newspapers said he hardly accepts to eat and he lost a lot of weight. It isn't hard to believe at all, even if somebody still continue to point his finger against him. Recently he accepted a short interview by phone, with the same grace, elegance and politeness which made him the man whom Leslie loved the most in his life. Click here to read his meaningful words. And if you want, click here to show your support. I really think nobody could ever imagine his feelings of loss now.

In this page I will continue to update some remarcable news. Please, refer also to LESLIE CHEUNG ALWAYS.

As for the Pillow, from now on there will be no more compromises. During these years, in order to avoid to hurt somebody's feelings and especially Leslie's feelings - since he didn't want his private life was exposed to the audience - this homepage has been politically correct in a way. But I knew what Leslie didn't like. He didnt' like being persecuted by dirty media and above all he didn't like lies. I remember well his words when they showed him the cover of 'Sudden Weekly', with the picture of him and Tong walking hand in hand. He simply said: "Quite pretty!".

Mr. Leslie Cheung showed during all his life that he liked the truth and he never hid himself. Mr. Tong recently said: "We never like to stand out to say anything. We never answer any rumours in the past, but at least we can prove it by action..." So there will be a page on this Pillow dedicated to the most beautiful and meaningul love story that I've witnessed in my life. Now that Leslie's gone, paradoxically this love is under the public eye with all his purity and greatness and it touched the heart of many. Leslie not only gave us a huge artistic legacy of extraordinary value. He gave us, along with his companion, the unforgettable example of a true love. Leslie Cheung fought his silently and quietly revolution of love. As every revolutionary he didn't survive to his own revolution, but hopefully others will enjoy the effect of his passionate fight. If you don't want to see, please, go away. If you think he should got married with Ms. Mo, please, go away.

Who's Gor Gor? He was a man who wanted to be loved. Unconditionally loved. He chose a man able to love him without any boundary or condition, sharing everything when Leslie was nobody. The same kind of love he expected from us, when he played a beautiful concubine or a manly playboy, when on stage he put on a wig or red high heels or he wore a cheeky skirt. No conditions at all. He loved to be himself. "I'm what I am", if you don't like what you see, if you would like something different, please, look at another side. He longed so much being himself that when he realised he couldn't be himself any more, because of his illness, he 'chose' to end his life. He was a delicate marvellous flower in a windy field of envy, wickedness and indifference.

Mr. Leslie Cheung died for severe depression syndrome. Hands which helped him to jump that tragic day were those of bad advisers (medecines, no exorcism!), of indifferent people, of those who didn't support his career before he got sick and lost his self-confidence (they offered him so many projects when he was no more able to accept them!), those who clipped the wings of his greatest dream of being a director and those of dirty media which always criticised him when he was alive and even now are trying to take advantage of him.

This is what I feel. You can believe it or not. I always knew and I know where is my place, I know where I want to stay. If you don't like it, go away. I chose, you choose.

Another news is about an 79 old woman who went to Leslie's house for praying and crying, according with AppleDaily and SingPao. On 'The South China Morning Post' today Leslie's niece Alisha McPherson wrote: "I read with dismay Peter Michael's article headlined 'Driver's death leap highlights tragic trend' ('South China Morning Post', April 22). There have been many articles in the English and Chinese press since the death of Leslie Cheung Kwok-wing which have sought to blame him for the suicide of others. Leslie was suffering from clinical depression which caused him to take his own life. He did not choose to do so to 'solve problems'. Those poor people who have committed suicide since Leslie's death may have had many reasons for doing so, but I appeal to all not to confuse these reasons with Leslie's medical condition".
