CARIBBEAN PULSE 'STAND
UP'
California–based
Caribbean Pulse is one of the most successful non-Jamaican reggae bands of
recent years. ‘Dry Your Eyes’ , their hit in combination with Tony
Rebel , has attracted so much attention in the Reggae world ( Jamaica
included) and is included here as one of the gems of this very strong set.
‘Stand up’ is an album with a considerable freshness and energy, the
work of a very dapper group of musicians and vocalists (Ezzy Judah, vocals
and percussions – Jason, bass – La Niece, vocals - Billy, guitar )
which includes also such masters as Santa Davis. Thus, their elegant
reggae, often blended with RB and pop fragrance, remains genuine and
authentic, while targeting to a pop oriented audience too. The thing I
like the most in this very good album is the voice of lead singer Ezzy
Judah from Belize, who performs over a roots style of singing very soulful
and original, even if reminiscent of the style of people like Freddie
McGregor and Dennis Brown. The highlights in this set are the uplifting
‘Victory’, ‘Freedom’ and the title track ‘Stand Up’. In
conclusion, a very nice surprise from a group who has already entered the
international reggae stardom.
