LINVAL THOMPSON '
Inna De yard '
«Inna
de Yard» is a new label, a collection supported by Makasound. Inna de
Yard presents the songs the way they were created, in the yards and
backyards of Jamaica. With a lead voice and a guitar... sometimes
accompanied by Nyahbinghi drums or background vocals, depending on the
vibes. Linval has recorded almost nothing in two decades. Apart
from a few occasional studio sessions in recent years with his neighbour,
famous producer Fattis Burrel (aka Exterminator), who was intent on
completing his new album, and maybe some other pieces that were never
released, Linval wasn't recording anymore. That is until he accepted to
stand behind Inna de Yard's mike. For
this unique singer, adept of «strictly Rub-a-Dub (Rock it!)» and
drum-and-bass frameworks, an acoustic session without a true bass was both
a challenge and a new experience. On
his Inna de Yard acoustic session, Linval - in addition to «Good Gracious
Woman» - takes on some classics such as «Jah Jah Dreader Than Dread»,
«Train To Zion» or the very rare «Inna de Hills», and others that he
slightly adapts, like the «Jah Guiding Star» version. He also seized the
opportunity to compose new pieces like «Mercy Mercy Mercy» or «Hit Them
With The One Drop». And this is truly a news.
