BAMBU' STATION
STUDIO & AA.VV. 'Talkin'
Roots - Volume 1'
When the ideas of the Jamaican reggae begin to
impoverish itself and originality begins to falter, it is perhaps
appropriate to throw an eye to the reality of OTHER Caribbean islands: you
might find something really convincing. Constituted from musicians,
vocalists and producers who are natives of the Virgin Islands (St.
Croix and St. Thomas), the Crew of the Bambù Station Studio (situated in
Washington, DC) thought well to give voice to the main talents of their
reggae entourage with this attractive compilation titled 'Talkin Roots
vol.1'. It is true that Iba, Yah Shiloh, Dezarie, Ankh Watep, Natty
Empress, Jalani Horton, Star Lion Family, Andy Llanos presently constitute
a small armed force of strangers (or almost) to
the international reggae scene - but they also present an exceptional
young crowd of artists and large talent with awesome potential.
Certainly, the main models we know inspire these young artists.
They are the usual: Sizzla, Luciano and company. But i would add 'THE
FIRST Sizzla and Luciano'. Demanded: energy, the passion and love
that these djs are infuse in their music is very much similar to what the
quite well known artists posessed at the beginnings of the their career
(and, in the matter of Sizzla, this is discussed in nostalgic memory).
If you must question the music, we add that some of the representatives of
this established Virgin Islands reggae scene can definitely brag about
original styles, the results of which obviously show in the quality of
this compilation. Between
everything, I would strongly recommend the singjay Yah Shiloh, the
solulful singer Iba and the exceptionally feminine
power of singjay Natty Empress. It should be emphasized, that all of
the riddims on the disk are authentic roots, with no remote indication of
dancehall and the like - everything is played strictly from the
instruments at the Bambu' Station Studio. What delight! A
compilation of fire warmly refreshing to all who long for wholesome roots
and cultures
