Prezident
Brown is undoubtedly one of the best conscious deejays around, a very
gifted and charismatic artist who deserves his place - alongside people
like Luciano, Sizzla and Anthony B - in
the ‘Gotha’ of the
reggae leading figures of these years. For these reasons, the american
label Jahmani Productions, has just released two exceptional double
cd’s - Showcase vol.1 and Showcase vol.2 - which
represent the best and the most complete way to investigate the good,
good works of the Prezident. The first volume presents, in the first of
its two cd’s ,the re-edition of the wonderful ‘To Jah Only’ (relased
by Kariang Records a couple of years a go) in remastered form with the
addiction of three previously unreleased tracks, while the second cd
contains its dub companion ‘Dub To Jah Only’ which makes the
Prezident’s masterpiece even more tasteful. The second Showcase is of
an enormous importance: the first cd contains a brand new compilation
entitled ‘Can’t Touch my soul’, a collection of singles and
unreleased tracks, which showcase the Prezident in top form, with the
presence of killer tunes lile ‘Work for your Money’ and ‘Can’t
touch my soul’; the second cd, instead, contains a remastered version
- with the addiction of two unreleased tracks, among which the wonderful
‘Holy Land’ - of the Prezident’s second album, ‘Prezident
Selections’ which in my opinion represents one of the most important
chapters in the history of the modern roots dancehall reggae, alongside
works like ‘If Jah’ by Tony Rebel and ‘Black Woman & child’
by Sizzla. In conclusion, I recommend this two great sets to every
reggae lover as they represent a heartfelt tribute to this exceptional
artist, this lion-voiced singay who is able to write, with his
unmistakable style, wit and intelligent lyrics; a very good and original
disciple of Brigadier Jerry, Charlie Chaplin , Josey Wales and U Brown.
