WADI GAD 'Writing
On The Wall'
New
solo album for the legendary percussionist and fine-instrumentalist
Wadi Gad. Pure roots
& cultures - real ‘vintage’ roots – for this artist that played
with and for all the most important
representatives of reggae music. The vocal style of Wadi is a middle course between that of
Pablo Moses, Bim Sherman and the last Mikey Dread and like such is vehicle
of whispered melodies, with a style that we could define dismissed but
deeply lyric. Also the
instrumentation that supports the vocal parts is not encumbering
considering that the riddims produced by David ‘Hodge’ Lodge are
purposely slight but nevertheless adapted to the style of Wadi.
Thus, the conscious singer is in a position to give life to
attractive songs, with pondered texts of not indifferent quality.
Unfortunately the already cited productive Hodge thought well (or
rather, badly) of including in the album a lot of remix in electric key
just to extend the broth but would have done well to leave them out a di
work considered the meager quality of the same.
However, how I said, the pieces of Wadi work and between everything
here I would like to recall the attractive ones ‘THE’ll drinks
praising Jah’, ‘Things People I Give’ (with a typical base of the
style of Lucky Dube) and ‘Mystery’.
Capable Wadi, a confirmation
