Of course a character like Hotohori is probably the
object of worship with those over high school age, right? (Sweatdrop) But
in a certain magazine corner, when "Fushigi--" was introduced, it was written
"Hotohori is much better than Tamahome." (But it seems Nuriko was the best.)
Keep at it Ho--ri--!! If I were to marry it'd be with you!! (Laugh) When
I was 18 years old and created it, I hadn't decided whether the setting
would be Japan or China but I had decided on a "crown prince". But when
it started being published my editor said "Better make him Emperor" (Sweatdrop)
But
his actions were restricted... (Sweatdrop)

Nuriko...even after he died he's been very popular. On the CD questionnaire
he came in 3rd! Even from Hong Kong I heard from readers "Bring him back
to life"! Making him gay was only a joke but on the other hand I think
it was a good thing. It's charming. With Hotohori,
from the very beginning I already had the image of "A guy as beautiful
as a woman" but Nuriko is just like a women... In the very beginning I
properly made him with a male body. His stature also was properly a man's.
I
have a drawing of that too. But then why did I have to make a regular
gay-like guy like "Hibari-kun"!... And so he became the present day Nuriko.
When I think of it, loving Hotohori makes him a "homo" but somehow Nuriko
also loves him as a women. Gave a strange feeling, didn't it? He
understands both the male heart and the female heart. He was a big sister
(?) who could be turned to.
