Pubblicato in 5000 copie ,presenta una band già incredibilmente matura e dal sound abbastanza personale,anche se profondamente influenzato dai nomi storici del punk. La furia e le chitarre sono ben presenti!Fra i brani significativi da segnalare "Teheran",ricca di elementi orientali,"Jennifer lost the war" e la mitica "Kill the president".Il disegno di copertina è un ragazzo cui esplode il ventre !Dall' apertura corporale prodotta esce un alieno armato di chitarra elettrica.

il primissimo lavoro per la Epitaph ,tappa fondamentale verso il capolavoro "Smash".I brani sono carichi di violenza elettrica si fanno più melodici.Si parte con uno strumento solo o con la voce di Dexter ,per ottenere un effetto devastante  quando entrano tutti gli altri strumenti.Si capisce che gli Offspring non sono la "solita" band di belle speranze ,ma una bomba sul punto di scoppiare!

A testimonianza del successo commerciale ,l'album ha venduto 12 milioni di copie ,il più alto numero mai raggiunto da un' etichetta indipendente. Già dal primo brano"Nitro" si capisce come il suono della band è ancora decisamente punk-rock ,senza dimenticare le chitarre che sono accompagnate dalla voce tagliente di Dexter .Fra le canzoni più belle,"Gotta get away"è un perfetto connubbio di potenza e melodia,"Self esteem" è un vero e proprio urlo di rabbia ,"What happened to you" profondamente diversa dalle altre nella sua matrice ska.

La sostanza dell'album rispetto ai precedenti rimane invariata, muta solo il produttore Dave Jerden.Le canzoni più belle:All I want","Change the world"influenzata dalla chitarra orientalegiante di Dexter ,"Mota" è più cupa ,legata al tema della tossicodipendenza,"Don't pick up"semplicemente un brano ska.

Registrato come il precedente lavoro all' Eldorado Recording Studio di Burbank sotto la guida di Jarden "Americana è pronto in meno di un mese"il singolo esce un mesetto prima  dell'album ed è scandalo."Pretty fly for a white guy",commerciale,piace moltissimo agli adepti di MTV ,ma delude non pochi fans degli inizi,anche a causa di un video molto divertente e molto glamour ,tipo ballerine seminude al bordo di una lussuosa piscina. Con questo album gli Offspring hanno creato un'opera commerciale ma rock senza dimenticare le origini. Nel secondo singolo,"Why don't you get a job?" ,di chitarre non si vede neanche l'ombra,mentre molto ricca di chitarre è"The kids aren't alright", "Walla walla" ha un ritornello decisamente pacchiano.. e diverte!
