BML - propellerBorn from the experience of OMB (Officina Marittima Bisognani, leader in the sector since 1926), BML avails of the most advanced calculation technologies and avant-garde machinery for the achievement of models and finished products for nautical propulsion systems.

Our collaboration enabled the validation of a threedimentional finite element numerical methodology, by means of the commercial software FloWorks, capable of evaluating the pressure and speed distribution in the fluid dynamic field and in particular on the blade surface.

By using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) it was therefore possible to establish a method to forecast the performance in different speed conditions of the craft and propeller rotation, in terms of efficiency relationship between the power given to the shaft and the hydrodynamic impact. By understanding the threedimentional field it was also possible to evaluate phenomenon of cavitation, allowing the optimization of the project and controlling the occurrence and the effect of such phenomenon.
