In 1997 the Cuban government opened up restrictions on
renting holiday property, allowing some families to
register to have foreign tourists to stay in their
houses. Prices start from $20 to $25 per night, but vary
according to season and region. All accommodation is
air-conditioned, and for just a few more dollars a day
you can enjoy a tasty breakfast prepared by the host
family. Evening meals can be taken near your
accommodation in one of the small family-run restaurants
known as PALADAR, at a cost of about $12.
Holiday appartments can be easily found in Havana, as
well as little houses with their own gardens, especially
in the sea-side area of the city, HABANA DELL'ESTE, or
the other towns. Bookings need to be made in advance,
especially in high season, to find something decent. The
Association, thanks to the help of some of its members,
has selected families who can guarantee good quality
accommodation at a reasonable price.
On the page dedicated to accommodation some of the houses
on offer are shown. It is necessary to specify whether
you want the whole house or just a room. An entire house
will usually cost in the region of $40- $45 per night.
Payments should be made in cash to the host family, whose
address we will supply you with when you join the
Association, so that you can contact them directly
yourself.
If you specifically request it, we can make the booking
on your behalf, for the cost of the telephone call or fax
transmission.
We take this opportunity to remind you that the
Association is a non profit-making association which
exists only to put tourists from other countries in touch
with Cuban host families. We therefore decline any
responsibility for the contacts established between the
two parties, as we are not a commercial or tourist
agency.
Asking your host family for advice is an excellent way to
get to know them, and they will be able to give you
infomation which is much more precise and up-to-date than
anything in a guidebook. As soon as you become a member,
the Association will also be happy to answer any
questions you might have.
