Celestia Feature requests: Group 2 FR6 Ground Objects |
A complete system to place correctly fixed ground objects. Is requested the capability of placing ground objects on bodies specifying a displacement from a ground location.
Description: Having the capability to use ground locations implemented as described in FR5, should be trivial to place objects on the body surfaces, without any artifact based upon tricky orbit management in SSC file.
So placing probes over planets, moons, comets and asteroids should be very easy. The placement of these objects should be implemented defining a displacement from the reference location. An example of the SSC code could be:
Another example could be:
The orientation (x, y, z) is intended relative from the ground location. Celestia should execute all the necessary calculations related with the inclination of the surface relative to longitude and latitude of the location. So placing the objects on surface with the correct orientation should be extremely easy. This implementation should allow to create complex scenarios on planet surfaces. Imagine an Add-On that simulates the Mars Pathfinder landing site. All the rocks visited by Soujourner should be placed easily. Another mesh with a detailed texture should be places as ground. The Soujourner itself could be animated adding an XYZ file (See FR14).
Required/Suggested: FR5 Ground locations.
