Celestia Feature requests: Group 5 FR30 Schematic views |
The capability of generating simplified views The possibility of having some simplified schematic views should be very useful.
Description: Actually the Celestia renders the space as it is taking care of every detail in the most possible realistic way.
To explain better some aspects like the different size of the bodies, the distances between the bodies and the position of the observer some simplified views should be very useful.
The schematic view should represent the bodies without using detailed textures, and using logarithmic or polynomial scales. In some situations instead of using meshes for probes or bodies should be used markers, symbols etc.
In the schematic view it is useful to see where is placed the observer, so an external view is required (See FR29).
In the schematic view should be very useful to have some grids to be used (see FR23).
The camera management in those schematic views should be smartly managed directly by Celestia.
For example all the planets in the system should be enlarged with a defined scaling factor.See the following example:
Or only the stars within a defined range should be displayed. See the following example:
E.g. If the observer is tracking a probe during a flyby on one of the Jupiter moons the default schematic view should represent the bodies using an appropriate shot and scaling factors. See the following example:
The purpose of this schematic view is to be used with the multiview feature. So in the main view the user should have the realistically rendered one and in one or more of the secondary (see FR26) the schematic ones.
Required/Suggested: FR23 Multireference systems FR26 Multiview schemes FR29 External Cameras
