A destra, una Louise Brooks apparentemente calma. Le ire della Brooks potevano essere devastanti, durare decenni, o esaurirsi in pochi minuti. Erano comunque spettacolari e originarono una aneddotica per molti versi esilarante. Durante il suo soggiorno tedesco lei, Lothar Wolff, il factotum di Pabst, e la sorellina della Brooks, June - reduce dalla prestigiosa scuola parigina in cui veniva mantenuta dalla stessa Louise - erano al Deutsches Theater. I ritratti di Goethe, Schiller, Molière li sovrastavano con autorità. Louise additò il  ritratto di William Shakespeare alla sorella: "June, guarda, l'autore dell'opera". June disse  improvvidamente: "Oh, e in quale posto è seduto?". Tra gli sghignazzi di Wolff, Louise esplose: "Sangue di Dio, June, che diavolo ti mando a fare in quella favolosa scuola di Parigi?". La punizione per la sorella, che dalle foto appare molto simpatica e carina,  era comunque pronta: tre ore di Shakespeare in tedesco.

 Altre deflagrazioni ebbero come vittima il nipote Robert Brooks (figlio del divorziato fratello Martin). Il novenne Robert, dislessico, fu, da alcuni indizi, una delle poche persone amate e rimpiante da Louise. Con lui la Brooks tentò di recitare, finalmente, la parte della madre: innanzitutto lo considerava normale ("Stronzate, è un normale ragazzino di nove anni"), gli cucinava micidiali manicaretti, gli insegnava samba e rhumba e si applicava con cura alla sua educazione con incoraggiamenti come "Robert, mi piacerebbe strozzarti" oppure, nello sforzo di compitare le parole, "Non sai neanche compitare gatto, figlio di puttana?". E ancora: durante un numero delle Follies, quando il cowboy-filosofo Will Rogers (una delle glorie dello spettacolo americano), alla sommità di un piramide umana, le spiaccicò un chewing gum sul naso: "Ti ucciderò, figlio di puttana!".
